Dining at Coco’s Grill

After catching up with our paper works in school, we then headed to Coco’s Grill to eat our dinner. Most of my colleagues said that this restaurant offers tasty food, so  we gave it a try. Madu and I ordered the following meals:

C360_2016-04-14-22-57-26-381

Bistro Chicken with bacon bits and melted cheese served with steamed or Coco’s rice @ P185.00

Perfectly grilled, Bistro Chicken is a must try since the combination of melted cheese and chicken brings a savory flavor which is just right to our taste.

C360_2016-04-14-22-57-59-804

Boneless Baby Back Ribs @ P245.00

The Boneless Baby Back Ribs  come saucy and presentable right before our eyes. Also, the spices that add zing to the ribs’ taste permeate through the juicy meat. Hmm… Can’t get enough of this! Well, I believe the foods in Coco’s grill are really good-tasting. Aside from steaks and ribs, delectable pizza, pasta, and salad are also served in this festive yet classy restaurant.

So, if you’re looking for  a place where you can eat to your heart’s content while bonding with your family or circle of friends, then Coco’s Grill is just right for you. However, if you want to have an intimate dinner with your special someone, I guess this place does not suit you. This resto is quite big; that’s why many people crowd in this place.

Heavenly Frappe and desserts @ Starbucks

Starbucks is one of the best coffee shops in town- no wonder we are hooked to stay in this place every time we feel sluggish. The coffee aroma is very enticing, making us come to our own senses.

When Starbucks first opened in Davao City, we still did not barge into this place right away since we found it more expensive than the other coffee shops. However, due to our curiosity, we gave in. Right now, we consider Starbucks, specifically at SM Lanang, as our “den,”especially when we just want to chill and chat.

Of course, when we chat we have to fill our tummies too! So here are the frappe and desserts we ordered…

C360_2016-05-05-16-38-13-642

New York Cheese Cake with Strawberry Syrup @ 135.00 + Mocha Frappuccino @ P150.00

My ultimate fave in Starbucks is their New York cheese cake. Having the combination of tart and sweet taste, this cheesecake has a solid, thick, and delectable cream cheese that makes me wanna ask for more. (I’m drooling!)

C360_2016-05-05-15-46-14-232

Caramel Frappuccino Blended Beverage @ P145.00, Mocha Frappuccino Blended Coffee @ P150.00 + Honey Glazed Doughnut @ P50.00 and Chocolate Dipped Doughnut @ P50.00

Mocha Frappuccino never fails to satisfy me. It has a strong coffee punch that really makes me feel high. The Caramel Frappe, on the other hand, tastes very light. Since it does not contain coffee, it is just like an ordinary drink sprinkled with sugar. For the pastry, the Honey Glazed Doughnut and Chocolate Dipped Doughnut may look enticing, but they do not meet my expectation. They are not that sweet, and they also have that crumbly interior which make them easily break into small pieces. They also feel lighter in hand.

Chocolate Crepe Cake @ P120.00 (Christmas Edition 2015)

Chocolate Crepe Cake is something new to me at Starbucks. Since there’s no New York Cheese cake, I have no choice but order their chocolate crepe cake. Nothing’s so special about this cake. It’s not that sweet, and its taste is not highly pleasing.

Big Smiles at Bigby’s Cafe and Restaurant

Appetizers, signature dish, sandwiches, salad, pasta, grilled meat, family platter, and desserts… Well, different luscious foods are served here in Bigby’s! Their best sellers include cookies and caramel cheesecake (dessert), rack-a-bye baby(signature dish), and scuba melt (sandwich). Enjoying every bite, we could not hide the smiles on our faces since their food is truly tasty and satiating! Two thumbs up!

The Ravishing Secrets of Flower Dome and Cloud Forest

C360_2016-04-27-11-06-43-835

The “Tulipmania” theme of Flower Dome

Fragrant and chromatic flowers everywhere… cool and refreshing ambience… beautiful view… unique experience….  That’s Flower Dome! During our visit in this beautiful haven, we were grateful to witness “Tulipmania” as the theme of the impressive floral display. With over 40 varieties of tulips, the dome stunned us with blooming flowers and relaxing atmosphere. (Trivia: Each year, Flower Dome displays different themes which fit to a specific season or occasion.)

C360_2016-04-27-11-11-54-718

Fascinated by the sight of these lovely flowers…

The moment I entered this place, I felt like I was in a secret garden filled with magic and fairy tales. Oh, I just really had fun sashaying on the garden trail which led me to Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella’s carriage, and the gingerbread house of Hansel and Gretel.

After eating our lunch, we rested and relaxed for a while…. We just enjoyed the beautiful view of Marina Bay Sands and Supertrees!

C360_2016-04-27-11-03-09-179

The Super Trees and Marina Bay Sands

Our next and final stop was at the Cloud Forest, another cooled conservatory. It has man-made mountain and waterfall that really made us feel like we’re in highlands. As we entered this dome, the huge man-made waterfall surprised us with its refreshing mist and cold water droplets that touched our skin.

C360_2016-04-27-11-02-04-092

The Man-made Waterfall

To start our journey, we took the lift to the mountain top (that is on the 6th floor) to see the different plants and rock formations. Then, we strolled along the “walkway in the clouds,” having a perfect view of the man-made mountain.

C360_2016-04-27-11-01-31-816

various flowers and plants behind us…

Going down, we also had a beautiful sight of Marina Bay Sands, Super Tree Grove, and the Singapore Flyer. Well, going down wasn’t a joke since the walkway made me feel really giddy. Upon reaching the ground, I felt a massive sigh of relief since finally I was able to trudge through the giddy walk.

Flower Dome and Cloud Forest are indeed worth our while. These two cooled conservatories which house plants from Mediterranean and tropical Montane regions of the world has offered us new experiences and wonderful stories to unfold.

Excess: By the way, below are the other stuff we did in Gardens by the Bay (That was the day before we visited Flower Dome and Cloud Forest)!

Savoring Best Seafood at Choobi Choobi

One of the newest seafood restaurant in SM Lanang Premier is Choobi Choobi. I just love eating in this place since the shrimps, crabs, and other foods are cooked and presented in different ways. (Whatever your request is, surely they will grant it. Also, the food prices in this resto are very reasonable you’ll ask for more!)

To satisfy our tummies, we ordered a half pounder shrimp in a bag, specifically sauteed in garlic flavor. We also tried their pork barbecue and their belly dancer.

Munching at Munchtown Diner

Looking for a place where you can enjoy  munching pizzas, Angus burgers, fries, and burritos? Well, Munchtown Diner best suits you. It has a wide variety of pizzas that taste good.  It also offers desserts that are truly mouth-watering.

Since we’re only three, we just ordered Chicken Barbecue pizza. It has a very simple presentation, but behind its “unembellished” look is a palatable mixture of  spices.

Though some of their food are quite expensive for an average person like us, I think this is still worth a try since Munchtown is also a good rendezvous for those people who just love chit-chatting while munching their fave food.

Enjoy eating!

Unique Wildlife Adventure at River Safari

Away from the city life of Singapore is the River Safari. From Ang Mo kio station, it took us 30 minutes to reach this river-themed wildlife park. It’s quite far, but this place is a must-see because it exhibits nice land and aquatic animals. To enjoy what’s inside, we purchased a ticket which cost S$30.00.

C360_2016-04-16-21-55-29-212

Our journey began at the Mississippi River where we got to see the alligator snapping turtle, alligator gar, and Mississipi paddlefish.

Next to Mississippi River was the Congo River. This river housed the African dwarf crocodile. It also had colorful fishes which were very pleasing to the eyes. To be honest, I’m not the type of person who loves fishes, but the ones I saw were simply amazing.

20150503_110824

River Nile was our next stop. In this river rested a tigerfish which had razor-sharp teeth. Woah! Creepy creature!

C360_2016-04-16-22-19-27-378

Amazed by the teeth of this tigerfish…

The next river which welcomed us was the Ganges River. It had a temple-like backdrop, and the river housed the Indian Gharial and the Goonch Catfish. The  Goonch Catfish was thought to be a man-eater creature.

These two Indian Gharials can’t just hold back their feelings… hehehe…

Hi, there!

Mekong River was next in line. This river showcased two of its largest fishes, namely, the Mekong giant cat fish and the giant freshwater stingray.

Hi, Mr. Stingray!

C360_2016-04-16-22-16-47-232

Continuing our journey, we went to Yangtze River to see the Chinese giant salamander and the Yangtze alligator. By the way, this river is China’s longest river!

After experiencing Rivers of the World, we went right away to Giant Panda Forest where we got to see the giant pandas, namely, Kai Kai and Jia Jia. In order to see them up-close, we went inside the bio-dome which had a temperature ranging from 16°C- 24°C. This dome is perfectly cool— that’s why these pandas are able to survive and enjoy the man-made forest. What’s nice about this attraction was that we’re able to have an up- close look at the pandas since “friendly barricades” were just placed around them. We clearly saw them and witnessed the things they loved to do— eating and breaking bamboos! So far this was the best view I had with pandas since the giant panda I saw in Ocean Park, Hongkong was too far and was enclosed in a dome.

After our meet and greet with the pandas, we then headed to Mama Panda Kitchen to eat our lunch. Of course, they had a wide selection of foods. Most of them were new to us. Madu ordered Shanghai Wanton Ramen Set which cost S$ 16.90 while I ordered Fish-Ginger Bamboo Rice which also cost S$ 16.90.

All set for the next adventure, Madu and I walked on the viewing deck where we got to see the calm river and hear the deafening silence of nature. We then headed to the boat plaza to experience the Amazon River Quest which lasted for 10 minutes. There were two rides which we could actually choose from— the Amazon River Quest which cost S$5 and the River Safari Cruise. However, we chose the Amazon River Quest since it was just a short boat ride in a man-made river which I thought was safer than the River Safari Cruise. In the Amazon River Quest, we saw different land and aquatic animals. As I rode the boat, I felt like I was in the travel and wildlife show “Born to be Wild,” looking for strange animals. Cool experience, indeed!

Our last stop was at the Amazon flooded forest where we had a closer view of the gigantic manatee, red-tailed catfish, piranhas, seals, and more! The aquariums were just simply amazing since we had the best view of the fishes on the 1st level (underground) and a good top view on the 2nd level (upper ground).

The Best of Universal Studios

Riding the cable car going to Universal Studios…

Gearing up on our second day in Singapore, Madu and I rushed at the Universal Studios where new rides and adventure are found. Since we wanted to have the best view of the humongous globe that welcomes each visitor, we tried as much as we could to be early in this wondrous place. However, as we arrived, there were already lots of people taking photos of the “famous” globe. Yes, we were already too late. However, this didn’t restrain us from taking beautiful photos of the globe. Though we weren’t really able to get the perfect shot, still it made our day since this was one of the reasons why we wanted to visit the Universal Studios— to have our photos taken in front of the epic globe.

C360_2016-04-12-20-21-51-097

Dream come true!

As we started our adventure, Madu and I had decided to explore first the place before barging into the rides. We took photos of the attractions and started choosing the best rides for us. The place was divided into different areas, namely, Hollywood, Madagascar, Far Far Away, The Lost World, Ancient Egypt, Sci-Fi City, and New York. Each area offered exciting attractions and rides.

After exploring each area, we then went out and headed to Sentosa gateway to eat our lunch at Insadong Korea Town. This place is almost the same with the Malaysian Food Street. The only difference was that it’s classier and the food stalls had self-order kiosks where we got to choose, order, and pay for our food. Among the food restos, we chose Manna and Café Bar. Madu ordered Pork Cutlet Noodle which cost S$11.80 while I ordered Bulgogi Curry Rice which cost S$15.00. Though the curry was filled with exotic spices, still it was yummy. Feeling Koreans… 🙂

As the clock struck at 12 noon, we then started our ride adventures. We went back to the Universal Studios and chose the Crate Adventure in Madagascar. Since we went there on a holiday, there were many people queuing for the ride. It was too tiring waiting for our turn since it took us almost 1 hour to take the ride. At first, I just really wondered why many people were patiently queuing for this ride. Perhaps it’s a good ride— I thought to myself. Well, the long wait was over when finally we had our turn in this river boat ride with the four heroes, namely, Alex, Mart, Melman, and Gloria. As I experienced the ride, I was like disappointed since for me nothing was really special about it. It was just a boat ride with props and characters talking at the sides. For me, the ride was not just really for my age. It’s for the kiddos.

The longest line ever!

Trying to look for an exciting ride, we headed right away to the Puss In Boots’ Giant Journey. I could say that this ride was really fun since we could see from where we stood how the ride worked. Without any hesitations, we queued again until we reached the coaster. This suspended coaster ride really took our breath away since we kept on ascending and descending up above. Well, the last time I had my extreme ride was still last 2010 in Hong Kong Ocean Park. I thought I would still have the courage to take this kind of ride. However, when I was already there up in the air, I proved myself wrong. Again and again, I realized that I was no longer young, wild, and free. After the nerve-wracking ride, I was just so quiet and was still shocked of what just happened. However, to be honest, I had so much fun despite what I felt. That wasn’t the most extreme ride I’ve ever had in my life though. It’s just that I’m no longer used to those kinds of rides. (Tiguwang na jud!)

The fun in Universal Studios never stopped as we witnessed the Hollywood Dreams Parade which showcased the blockbuster movies and characters on the intricately designed floats. From where I stood, I saw Woody and Winnie Woodpecker, Alex the Lion and the penguins from Madagascar, the dinosaurs from the movie Jurassic Park, and a lot more. It was indeed a festive parade as the characters entertained us with their dance moves and cute gestures.

After the parade, Madu “begged” me to join him in the Transformers ride. This ride was the most queued ride since it’s a 3D ultimate battle against the forces of evil. What made this ride very special was that it made us also become a part of the scene in which we acted as freedom fighters together with Optimus Prime and the Autobots. The scene was jam-packed with action and musical effects that made us scream at top of our lungs. Indescribable! Though the line was really long, it was still worth all our while since the Ultimate 3D made us feel like we were part of the movie scene, ready to fight for our freedom.

C360_2016-04-12-20-15-26-092

Jam-packed Action at Sci-Fi City

Aside from the Transformers ride, I also got a chance to try the Treasure Hunters ride. It was only I who tried this ride since Madu found this ride very kiddie. This ride offered a treasure-hunt like journey. I guess it was the slowest among the rides I had tried.  However, while I was riding, something went wrong. The ride got stuck, so I had to alight. Good thing was that the staff gave me a Universal Express ticket in which I got to choose the ride which I wanted without queuing for how many minutes or hours. Thus, I used the Express ticket to ride the Transformers ride.

Of course, we didn’t miss the chance to watch the sensational “live” water show— the Water World. This show offers intricate and dangerous stunts, amazing explosions, and exciting water splashes. It’s like we were in a live movie show packed with thrilling action. Among the live shows I had seen here and abroad, for me the Water World was the most exciting and surprising. The actors were really good, and their facial expressions and gestures were genuine. Two thumbs up!

The excitement continued as we plunged into the Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure! We really chose this ride to be the last on our list since we knew ahead of time that this ride would make us wet and wild. This thrilling river raft ride through the old habitats of the dinosaurs was indeed amazing since the dinosaurs secured us from the wild. It was so much fun soaking ourselves with the water. It was a pure adventure together with the dinosaurs. In order to save ourselves from the natural calamities, we got inside the hydroelectric plant in which our raft was lifted few meters high. Unknowingly, we were plunged again into the water. This ride was indeed full of surprises!

Our adventure in the Universal Studios was truly memorable. It was a new experience for me since this was my first time to be in this place. Though we were not able to take all the rides, still I could say that Madu and I were very happy since we ended our day in this place with big smiles on our faces.

Cafe Anabelle’s

This place has a small play area where kids could have fun while waiting for their parents. However, if you’re just with your friends or colleagues, you can just eat, stay, and unwind in this area after you grocery shop.

Zabs Buffet restaurant is located at Paseo de Roxas building, Roxas Avenue, Davao City.
